Illegal immigrants seem to dominate some industries, such as farm labor and meat packing plants. Seasonal farm work used to be done by teenagers looking to make some extra spending money, and while working in a meat packing plant isn't exactly a desirable job, it probably pays well enough. So - what can be done to attract more American citizens to these types of jobs?

Farm jobs are still being done by many Americans. Where there is a shortage of American farm laborers the farmers have unlimited H-2A visas for LEGAL foreign crop pickers. So just where is the problem? The problem is not a shortage of workers but farmers that want cheap, illegal workers instead to increase their profits.

As for all other jobs Americans have always done them for a "fair" wage but again the employers again want cheap, illegal labor instead. The problem is the employers, not the American worker. The problem is also illegal aliens willing to break the law to take these jobs.

Not much, this is why those jobs aren't domininated by typical Americans. Welcome to a developed nation with spoiled suburban citizens. People take pride in that attitude and think it's a part of America.

Oh, get real. What types of jobs are you suggesting that aren't dominated by Americans by choice? In constructon for example Americans use to be dominant until the arrival of millions of cheap labor illegal aliens. Stop blaming the American worker rather than the emloyers and their cheap slaves.

Spoiled suburban citizens? Don't make laugh. Most Americans whether they live in the suburbs, cities or rural areas have always done blue collared jobs.

People using illegals would freak out if they had to follow min wage and benefit laws.

Invent more machines for the Americans to use.

Even physicians are performing surgeries with robotics, there's no reason new machines can't be invented to help harvest vegetables and fruits.

Maybe invent robotics to cover pregnancy too, then we can have a Butlerian Jihad of our own...

A side note to this is one out of every four doctors in the United States is foreign-born, one-third of the nurses are as well...

A good start would be to pay a decent wage and maybe include some benefits.
