Green mariner no one in this forum can guarantee you, any safety. if you go, everything can happen. If you are so worried about, and fearful about it then don’t go. I don’t think the chances are greater than getting bit up here in America by a group of skin heads
It is much. much worse. But the question is whether there may be certain areas which for the moment are taboo for the violence. The Golden Dawn is a paid army and they may be following orders to stay out of certain areas. There are areas of Athens that look like a war zone.
In a country like this, I don't think one can say how safe or unsafe someone will be. You would have to talk to the American Embassy to better understand where the violence is taking place. There may be tourist areas that are off limits for now. I believe that the Embassy will be fairly honest in their views.
At this point, I'm at a lost. Greece is one of the last places I would expect to see this kind of behavior. I did check with the state dept about Greece though.

If there are certain places where violence isn't allowed, it is a matter of finding out what areas those places are.
Remember, it wasn't too long ago that Greece was ruled by a military Junta. The country has been through a lot. Probably if you go to a Greek forum there will be all kinds of discussion about what is happening, why it is happening, and where things are heading.
