There's already a discussion started ... on the same topic.
The proposal is to change the law/regulations to allow of-age persons to volunteer to serve and protect the USA and to put their lives on the line, persons who were minor children at the time they were, without choice, brought to the USA by their parents.

This again? As another poster pointed out that just makes them mercenaries and there is no way of knowing if they will actually be put in harm's way and become heroes or even if that is their noble intent. IMO, unless you are a citizen of this country you shouldn't be serving in our military. It's our country and therefore only those who owe allegiance to it should serve.
It matters not how these so-called children got here after they reach a certain age it is their responsibility to correct their status and IMO that should include going home and applying from there. Anything other than that just rewards their parents for bringing them here.

While you may wish to be unprotected in a time of crisis ... be it a national emergency due to natural disaster, or warfare ... I suspect you're in the very small minority of persons who wouldn't welcome the help of anyone who offered it ... no matter the color of their skin or their nationality or their immigration status.

But that isn't what is going on right now. We aren't in a crisis. This is about enlisting in our military not addressing a national emergency. Yes, I would welcome help in that case....no matter who offered it. Why did you feel the need to mention skin color? What does that have to do with the issue of illegal immigration? Hmm, do I smell the stench of the race card here? If so, you're way off base as I have nothing against anyone's skin color. This is the illegal immigration forum. Did you forget that?
I love how some make it sound as if without illegals joining the military we will be left unprotected. Talk about false advertising. A nation that would depend upon mercenaries for protection is a doomed nation. No combat vet trusts a mercenary and for good reason. Their loyalty is bought and subject to change on a whim. With recruitment quotas down and the military downsizing we have no need for mercenaries within our ranks.
The Republican in question is simply pandering like the good politician he is.
Considering his district is very marginal and about 40% Hispanic it is not surprising. Of course there are many on the right that emphasize ideological purity over winning, but that is less appealing to someone who depends on winning elections for their job.

I haven't. But there are comments being posted in the discussion and, generally on this form which give the clear impression race/nationality is at the core of the rhetoric. If the shoe fits ...

You like most defenders of illegal aliens are just playing the race card where there is none to be played. If race/nationality is ever mentioned it is simply because most illegal aliens are from a certain group. Illegal alien is not a race by the way and we have often said that we want "all" illegal aliens gone from our country. So no, the shoe doesn't fit.
