Of course 51,000 people are going to be apprehended, it's the border. The Border Patrol apprehended 1.2 million persons in 2005. There will always be people being apprehended, and people getting in. When citizens of illegal immigrant parents become of voting age, politicians are going to cool it on immigration slander, raids, and harrasment of hard working people.
California: Latinos 17.3% of electorate.
Florida: Latinos 16% of electorate.
Nevada: Latinos 9% of electorate.
New Mexico: 44% of electorate.
Texas: 16% of electorate.
Arizona: 16% of electorate.
This is 2008, not 1998, I'm sure fighting the immigration problem ten years ago would have been more successful. The voting numbers amongst Latinos will only increase, by birth and green card to citizenship. The gains George Bush made with Latinos were great, but the Republican party has hurt itself big time with Latino voters, because immigration is their number 1 concern. I will be shocked if the Republicans win Florida in '08.
That's some selective editing there, whoever cut a part of that video out wanted to cast a very different light on what Carrillo's 'speech' was all about.
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, uncovered through the Freedom of Information Act a videotape (and transcript) of an August 15, 2007 town hall meeting on illegal immigration held in Laredo, Texas.
During the meeting, held at Texas A&M International University’s campus, US Border Patrol (USBP) Laredo Sector Chief Carlos X. Carrillo disclaimed the illegal immigration and narcotics enforcement missions of the USBP.
Quote:
"The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop illegal immigrants . . . The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop narcotics . . . or contraband or narcotics . . . the Border Patrol’s mission is not to do any of those things . . . The Border Patrol’s job is not to stop criminals . . . The Border Patrol’s job is to stop terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering this country," Mr. Carrillo stated.
The 'numbers' he cited were supposed to represent a 10 month span.

asactly.. criminals... illegals=criminals
it is UNLAWFUL to sneak across the border... if you find nothing wrong with sneaking across... why don't you sneak across to the otherside... your already half-way there anyway...
I'm thinking that Carrillo's bosses took him to the woodshed for his remarks,
they probably didn't like that speech about what their job was supposed to be all about,
....witness this new quote from Carrillo:

Fifty-one thousand is nothing. We have been invaded by millions. And we need to respond militarily.
Homeland Security Head Chertoff says they apprehended 8% less in the last reporting period, and that annual apprehensions are about the same as 1991.
Hmmm.....
.....and he attributed that 8% drop in apprehensions in the last reporting period to Bush's policy of deporting virtually all non-Mexican border crossers as fast as they are caught, deterring them and others in what had been the fastest-growing group of illegal immigrants.
I'm sure he was taken to the woodshed for those remarks. To say that the border patrol is only there to stop terrorists and not illegal immigration is contrary to the mission of the border patrol. The guy is a complete idiot for making such a statement publicly.

51,000 is twice the size of the town where my parents grew up -- think about the numbers here, pro-illegal advocates..
