California Budget Deficits
The Bi-Lingual Education that Put CA in the Red
By OnTheWeb: Mark Andrew Dwyer Saturday, January 12, 2008

I was shocked by Gov. Schwarzenegger’s draconian proposal of “across the board” state budget cuts in order to remedy the $14 billion deficit.

Rather than distributing the cost of bringing governmental reckless spending under control “evenly”, he should at least make an effort to identify the areas where most of the wasteful spending takes place and eliminate it, instead. And it doesn’t take an Einstein to figure out that educating Mexican illegal aliens and their Spanish-speaking children in California public schools is one of the biggest ticket items in this category.

Research Ron Unz and prop 227. The Canadian Free Press is grossly misinformed. Your from California so you should know better...I'm sure you voted for this prop that ended costing tax payers millions upon millions to implement...

"State Level: The Legislative Analyst says that total state spending on schools would probably not increase because of offsetting reductions in other school programs. "

Which is what many have been stating here all along - the money from the taxes we pay is being diverted to accommodate the illegals - which means less resources for the kids who belong here in the first place. Schools have had to cut back on SO MUCH in our area to accommodate the alien invasion.

I am 100% against multi-lingual schools. 1, its a waste of tax dollars. 2, kids learn better in mainstream English schools. I have cousins who went to a multi-lingual school and they barely learned any English.

Agreed!!! It still costs extra to bring non-English speakers into English speaking classes but worth the expense nonetheless.

The children learn faster with out interpreters. I have a cousin who learned English in 1 year, the year he wasn't in bi-lingual.

To whom? You? How so? Do you have children attending school? What did you contribute to your local school district by way of paying property tax? Do you even own any real estate? How you answer those questions will give us better perspective on the person making such an assertion. (If you hadn't noticed, I am completely opposed to it.)

I agree, studies can prove both cases (for/agains) but overall children will learn and studies have also proven that children are more adaptable than they are given credit for. My father knew enought to speak and learn English in class but speak Italian at home. His parents were immigrants. He went on to be the first of his siblings to finish school and then not only obtain a college degree but also a master's.

I own my home and pay property taxes which are then pumped into the school system. I do not have children but am still supporting my local school district. I am not sure you read my response completely but I am opposed to bi-lingual education. Is that what you are opposed to? If so we are on the same page.

Well, any fiscal plan that comes out of the California legislature for Arnold's signature will be heavily influenced by the Hispanic lobby in California. The decision on what to cut will be made long before the governor sees the bill. Besides, look at how much Arnold's political positions themselves have changed since he first became governor. The reality in California is one way or another, illegals get government benefits, and most politicians there will have a short political career if they oppose this.
