Post Senate puts off action on immigration.

WASHINGTON - Senate leaders agreed Monday that they would wait until June to take final action on a bipartisan plan to give millions of unlawful immigrants legal status.

The measure, which also tightens border security and workplace enforcement measures, unites a group of influential liberals, centrists and conservatives and has White House backing, but it has drawn criticism from across the political spectrum. In a nod to that opposition, Senate leaders won't seek to complete it before a hoped-for Memorial Day deadline.

Are they hoping the short attention span of the American general public will forget about this issue and allow them to do as they please?

This has really developed into a hot button issue. There's so much of an uproar over this supporters are treading very lightly. But the House wasn't going to bring this up any time soon anyway so the Senate might as well slow down and actually take a real close look at this proposal. I guarantee you that there is any number of nasty surprises in this thing.
