As the family of a woman allegedly slain by an undocumented immigrant filed a claim today in advance of a lawsuit over her death, a fierce debate in Washington over the practice of so-called "sanctuary cities" is expected to consume Congress after members return from their summer recess.
Congress has been working on legislation known as "Kate's Law," after Kate Steinle, the victim of the attack in San Francisco that made national headlines earlier this summer. It would end federal funding for so-called sanctuary cities that defy federal immigration actions.

Kate Steinle Lawsuit Has Political Reverberations in Washington Over Illegal Immigration - ABC News

May your life not been in vain, Ms Steinle.

Sanctuary cities NEED to be punished severely.

I'm glad her parents are doing this. I've always said I would sue them too. I would also name Obama in that lawsuit. When you threaten law enforcement that they had better not do their job that they took an oath to do, or there will be consequences, that means his oath when becoming potus meant nothing to him. He's allowed this surge in illegals, and allowed sanctuary cities to harbor illegal criminals. He needs to be called on it.

Every presidential candidate--for both parties--needs to answer directly in the debates whether they support this law. No more "immigration reform" and "path to citizenship" or "come out of the shadows" nonsense. Tell the American people straight up whether you're for us or for the illegals and their anchor kids.

If it wasn't for San Francisco's sanctuary policies, that woman would be alive today.

The city of San Francisco has her blood on their hands.

Supporters of the city's sanctuary policy should be on their knees begging Kate Steinle's parents for forgiveness. And God for mercy.

It would be a start. However, I think it is much more fitting to either:

1) Arrest those that aid and abet those that commit these criminal acts

or

2) Sue those in power in "sanctuary cities" for any and all costs associated with criminal aliens

Until the criminals that commit these acts see repercussions, things will not change. That is equally true for those that hire criminal aliens.

They were on AC360 tonight but he didn’t bring up Trump. Would be curious what they thought although their action makes it pretty clear where their sentiments lie.

And that would be Obama, himself. It's a federal offense to harbor, or aid or abet the harboring of illegal aliens in the U.S.

8 U.S. Code § 1324 - Bringing in and harboring certain aliens | LII / Legal Information Institute

Obama's EOs on illegal immigration are acts of aiding and abetting the harboring of illegal aliens in the U.S. That is clearly illegal. The U.S. President does not have the authority to issue an EO that violates federal law. In fact, Obama himself should be prosecuted for issuing those EOs. He's directly committed federal offenses in doing so.

The problem with that approach is that those in power don't pay whatever settlement may be awarded if their action is the result of municipal "policy." It's the taxpayers who will be on the hook.

How are Obama's actions with regard to his refusal to enforce immigration laws any different than the county clerk that refuses to issue homo marriage licenses? She is now (or is about to) be in jail for contempt of court. Why isn't Obama up on similar charges? It is no different.
