If California didn't have illegals, they would have had to have legals here to do this work. The problem is the immigration policies are broke and absolute corruption occured.
Or; perhaps wages for Americans would rise.......

The flip side is maybe housing prices in California would be forced down due to no 'worker bees' to maintain things.

That's just it. Employers who actually would sponsor a legal immigrant are being forced out of business by the unscrupulous who just order up a semi-trailer filled with illegals.

Legal immigrants have better pay and benefits. They must be paid overtime, are generally given paid vacations and have some job protections. The employer sponsor must take some financial responsibility for them.

You can see illegals living in deplorable conditions. Here you can see them living in unheated, unairconditioned sheds behind barns, or sleeping 14 men to the floor of a shabby apartment that no one should be living in.

If employers were hit with big fines and prosecuted, it would help a lot because the honest employers could be back in business and there would be a need for more legal immigrants -- but we can easily do without those who are here for the welfare handouts.

Or without the big massive free-for-all open borders, there would be a push for a legal guest worker program, more pressure in that direction. The current way is just bad all the way around. Bad for us, and obviously not doing anything to stabilize Mexico.

With controlled immigration wages for everyone would rise. Including wages for legal immigrants and legal guest workers.

In reality, many Mexicans packing up their bags to come over to the USA don't at first intend to move here for good. Many actually want to get back to their families and way of life someday soon, but of course many begin to forget the wife and kids back home, and obtain new partners and new families and that is devastating to the family back in Mexico.

For some jobs a true temporary guest worker program would be beneficial, one where no citizenship is promised, and no long term indefinite stay but a set time where the worker would soon return home -- back to loved ones, this would help actually provide investment and more stability back home instead of the vicious spiral of illegal migration.

They've been rising. The federal minimum wage was raised. It's the inflation of the dollar that's making everything so expensive.
