"The drug smuggler arrived on a bus from Laredo lugging three suitcases filled with 45 pounds of marijuana, Dallas police say.

It was a significant amount for officers to intercept — worth more than $50,000 on the street — but police say the bust was unusual for another reason.

The suspect was a 14-year-old girl.."
Hey, she's just a HARD WORKING ENTREPRENUER, IN SEARCH OF THE AMERICAN DREAM!

Appears that she was a mule for a drug cartel. She's small fry compared to those we really should be worried about.

The weed may have come from mexico but that in itself only makes it a drug issue not an immigration issue. Had it been found on someone sneaking accross the border that would have changed my opinion. Thanks for the rep.
The article doesn't say she is, but if she's crossing the border with drugs, it's a good bet she is an immigrant. Who else has all the "right connections" in Mexico? What American citizen would be going into Mexico asking around about where the drug cartels are? That would not likely work out so well for a native American citizen.

Do you base everything you say on assumptions?

The girl had taken a bus south, picked up the drugs, and returned, Chief Bernal said. She knew she was involved in a drug operation, and may even have planned to distribute the marijuana herself, he said.
Now American citizens are not capable of smuggling drugs?

Dallas police drug interdiction officers posted at the Tornado bus station in North Oak Cliff noticed the girl Thursday morning as she stepped off a bus. They approached her when she tried to leave in a taxi.
She came back on a bus which is a strong indicator that she is a U.S citizen.

The mother said that as far as she knew, her daughter had no friends or acquaintances in Laredo
Does that sound like someone who was a native of where she went to pick up the drugs?

I have the feeling the mother is doing a whole lot of covering up.

Just how does a black or white American (or hispanic-American from a long time American family) 14 year old girl go waltzing into Mexico on her own and start finding where the drug cartels are?

You do know that the Mexican cartels have cornered the market on drug trafficking and are not about to give that up to a 14 year old American girl any time soon don't you?

The drug cartels very carefully guard their drug routes, no one encroaches on "territory", not even little girls. This girl most obviously has very very close connections.

Lets face it. 31 years ago when I was 14 it would be a world headline news story for a 14 year old to have such connections. Today however it doesn't shock me in the least. No a small town girl wouldn't have such connections, I hope. But inner city? Maybe moms botfriend and mom put her to work? Stranger things have happened.

Believe it or not, drug trafficking didn't start 3 years ago.

The supplier of the grass is sure stupid. They could of had a backpack with 15 lbs in it and the girl would not have been stopped. Three bags by a small 14 yr old is too obvious. No girl would be on a bus with that much clothing in three bags nonetheless.

Man, you must be very sheltered.
I wouldnt right away assume her mom was involved.

Its not hard for this kind of stuff to happen. Theres always someone that knows someone that knows someone.

Its not like the movies where she goes into some Mansion, talks to a Drug kingpin, gets the product and does a daring crossing into the united states.
She didn't go "looking for the drug cartels". Or a "connection".

She probably had a friend who had a friend or cousin who knew a drug dealer on the other side. gave them some cash to move the product. People use mules like that all the time.

A young American girl(regardless of ethnicity) is perfect, because they look less suspicious to customs.

Couldve been a decoy.

Lots of times they'll let someone get caught so they can move more stuff while theres a big commotion around that person. Probably got suckered into it looking for some quick cash, lol.
Stuff happens. Hopefully she learned her lesson.
