Although an ICE press release, dated today, claims that most of the arrested were gang members and that the rest had criminal records, immigrant rights advocates say that at least some of the arrestees had committed only minor offenses. The real purpose of the raids, they say, is to strike fear in the hearts of immigrant communities around the country.

"We strongly reject the presence of ICE in our communities," said Maria Elena Letona, executive director of Centro Presente and member of the Executive Committee of the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities, said in a press release today. "We denounce the tactics which we find to be militaristic, intimidating and discriminatory ... A profound change in the immigration policy of the United States is urgently needed; a legal overhaul that reflects the true principles of liberty and democracy under which this country was founded."

"Law enforcement operations like this should reassure the public that ICE is committed to putting public safety first. Every individual targeted as part of this operation has a criminal record," said Bruce M. Foucart, special agent-in-charge of ICE's Office of Investigations in Boston, in the ICE release. "Criminal aliens should be on notice that ICE is working closely with local law enforcement to take off the streets those who threaten the very safety of our neighborhoods."

Immigrant Rights Organizations Denounce Mass. ICE Raids | Open Media Boston

What part of illegal do these morons not understand? The sheer arrogance of their dismissal of the law by down grading the degree of their perpetual criminal actions as "minor" offenses represents all that is wrong with Mexico.

There no words for the abundance of insanity imbedded in the miniscule IQ's of these culturally and psychologically diminished nut cases.

What stood out for me was the line. " Some only committed minor offenses. Yo minor or not they broke the law. Minor or not they are infact here illegally. Get used to it because the nation has spoken and we want our immigration laws enforced.

You too? They don't seem to connect the dots at all in terms of no matter what the class of crime they have committed, it's still a crime. I'm sure if we changed the crime of illegal entry to a felony, they'd then claim they've only committed ONE crime.

I know Americans whose lights are on but nobody is home but these people are completely in the dark in both categories.

Just another BooHoo pile of BS from the Illegal Lovers, JDubsMom.

There is no degree of ILLEGAL just as there is no degree of being a Common Criminal.

Yes, and they do in fact consider identity and credit card theft as "minor" offenses. Moreover, any crime committed by illegal aliens is somehow justified by the pro-illegal crowd. After all, our immigration laws 'force' them to become criminals.

Yet if any of us here who are US citizens would be charged with Felonies for doing those same things.

ITA, but then nothing is ever their fault, we're just selfish racists who don't want to share our good fortune in exchange for them generously sharing their burdens and grief in return.

Yes, there are two separate laws in this country.....one for legal citizens, and one for illegal aliens.
