I have heard from several sources that correct Castillian Spanish tends to be nerve wracking to most Mexican Spanish speakers...........

Why would it be nerve wracking to them?

Of course they understand it.

Much the same way that a Southerner will hate the way a Yankee speaks...or the way a Texan speaks vs. a Californian....

Do you like that the African American community passes off Ebonics as English?

Do you think a Brit likes the way you talk English?

The same thing for Mexican and Castilian Spanish...It is just a geographical preference/dialect...

New Mexican Spanish is the closest dialect to Castilian Spanish that you are going to find in the United States.
New Mexican Spanish

Because it reminds many Mexicans of the conquistadors.

A Mexican friend of mine admitted that Castillian Spanish got on his nerves----------and, this particular gentleman was of 100% Eastern Euro White Jewish lineage.

New Mexican Spanish
Ebonics is essentially 16th Century White Cockney English.

So you base your theory on one person? I highly doubt anyone around remembers the conquistadors...Mexican Spanish is simply a geographical dialect...

Which emphasizes my point that it is a geographical dialect...

Interesting point, Lilypad

To avoid offending while in Spain, never refer to the language spoken in Mexico as Spanish!

Wow.

Although calling a Mexican 'Spanish' is a backhanded compliment---------but, never refer to a Spaniard as Mexican. Those are fighting words.

Truly. The language one speaks is a class marker. Mexico in particular has a real caste system.
