In 2007, Sen. Jon Kyl surprised critics and angered many supporters by negotiating and championing controversial comprehensive immigration-reform legislation. But after taking a pounding from conservative activists, Kyl is not eager to stick his neck out again for a temporary-worker program and steps toward legalization for millions of undocumented migrants in the country.
Nationwide public outcry ultimately killed last year's measure. Although the timing is unclear, the incoming Democratic-controlled Congress is expected to give it another try with a new version.
President-elect Barack Obama is an immigration-reform supporter who promised Latino voters during the campaign that he wouldn't wilt under public opposition. But the support of high-profile conservatives such as Kyl, the Senate's No. 2 Republican, would help blunt the impact of a voter backlash.

. Part of me is praying that they try to pass one of those middle of the night amnesties. I get tickled pink just thinking of the outrage that will rain down on the idiots masquerading as our government.

They'll put on a good show for the pro-illegals, but that will be the extent of it. They know better than to actually try to pass amnesty.

At some point common sense has to become a reality for these idiots. You would think at this point in our recession (heading towards depression) that even the stupid ethnocentric racists would realize that they have failed to deliver as promised.
Sort of reminds me of gun control laws. We don't enforce the ones on the books so writing more still will solve what??? Nothing. Enforce our laws get the problem under control and adjust as needed after control is gained.

Too bad common sense isn't so common. I totally agree.

I sense showboating as well..........lip service to the illegal alien fans but little/no amnesty in practice.
