The citizenship of hundreds, possibly thousands, of people who insist they are Americans is being called into question because they were delivered by midwives near the U.S.-Mexico border.

The federal government's doubts have arisen as many people in the border region try to meet a June 1 deadline to obtain U.S. passports so they can freely cross from one country to the other.

The people delivered by midwives have documents such as birth certificates and medical records. But the agency that grants passports is challenging the credibility of those papers, citing a history of some midwives fraudulently registering Mexican-born babies as American.

Born in the US = american
Born in Mexico = mexican

Is that too difficult to understand? (use some common sense)

In other words, they were actually born in Mexico, but have a forged U.S. birth certificate. Herein lies the problem.

They have even gone to the extent of loaning newborns to other people (usually close family)so they can register for the free services that go along with it. We've had a bunch of cases here in San Diego involving fraud like this.

If 1500 stream across per day I'm sure it isn't that hard to figure many are newborns.

Then the issue is not babies, their mothers, etc.

The problem is people forging birth certificates (Don't have to be a baby to use it as a document)

You have got to be kidding? You are ok with Illegal Aliens using YET ANOTHER way to rip off US taxpayers? This is widely used and a pretty big fraud here near the border.

The problem is FRAUD -- and it's a staple of illegal alien existence in this country. This is just one of the myriad tactics used by illegals to rape this country.

In this case; I could see honoring the extant US birth certificates unless there is proof that they are fraudulent.

Read that innocent till proven guilty.

Two things, if they had inside help from a hospital then it's a mess. If they can match records to a valid birth in a hospital then no big deal. Benicar should know if there is a tracking number on them.
