What your preaching here is a double-standard Pro. It's okay for anyone that isn't white to promote their color and race, however when white folk do it, it's called racism. I don't subscribe to the KKK or any of the "white power" groups, nor do I subscribe to any other race based promotion. It's all bad and even if it may have started with good intentions, it has evolved into something far more sinister. And I stress the point "may have started with good intentions" because I don't believe that is entirely true.

I agree however, people will always be loyal to their cultural past. Mexican people are very fond of their culture and where they come from.

That's great and I agree that they should be fond of and promote their culture, but promoting "brown pride" can only lead to distancing themselves from other cultures. They need to promote their pride by other means that is less offensive.

Brown Pride has nothing to do with race based promotion. The only thing that has evolved into something sinister is anything with "White" in it. I agree that anything based on color isn't professionally correct but hey, at least they haven't soiled their right to use it.

Since they use the word "Brown" as opposed to say...Mexican, then they are race based and that happens to be a fact.

I agree that they should be proud of their culture but not to the extent of trying to push it off onto the whole country and not assimilating to ours.

These groups are started usually by First or second generation Mexicans who speak English and were born in the U.S. They could be American in every way possible, just because they belong to a group that tries to bring together Mexicans in peacefully doesn't mean they are preaching racism or anything.

Let me get back to you on that. I'm sure that I can find representative examples that it's not only promotions for something related to "white" culture are the only thing that have evolved into anything sinister. I'm out of time at the moment and it may be some time before I can respond. Have a great evening.

BTW, the fact that they haven't "soiled" their right to use (although I believe they have) does not mean that it should be promoted. It's asking for trouble and instigating racism in my opinion.

imho brown pride has nothing to do with mexican culture, but ymmv, no one here in mexico ever has been pride of being brown LOL, maybe they are proud of being Mexican, but Mexicans from Mexico haven't been infected with this I'm brown, white, black, yellow, purple, orange or whatever thingy.

Mexican is Mexican, some people in Mexico create divisions based on class though but only ignorant and petty people.

imho if you are being united by skin color then you are being united on something based on "race" (because there is only one human race imnho) I don't know if it's racist though but at least it's racial.

Sorry ProLogic, but the recent co-opters of the term "Brown Pride" have turned the phrase from "self esteem building" into a racialist term. Because it is used by Mecha, La Raza et al, whatever meaning it HAD is now moot.

Besides, if the "brown pride" (no love for white or black Mexicans, I suppose) rally cry is used by those who think Mexican gangs should get along with Mexican gangs because they're all Mexican....... I'm just not getting the purpose at all? Gangs fight eachother. It's what they do. Is it a call for an end to all gangs, or are they saying that gangs should fight only non-Chicano gangs? Exterminate the blacks and turn the ghetto into the barrio?

Kind of like when that one black activist decried "black on black" murders and suggested that blacks kill whites instead?

No, today "brown pride" stands for the view that Hispanics (but Chicanos in particular) are "superior" to whites or blacks. You can thank those enlightened college activist groups for THAT!

It's what distinguishes "brown pride" and "white pride" these days from say, "gay pride" or even "black pride" (which even black pride is becoming less necessary).

I know it doesn't, I never said it did. I said it had to do with bringing together Mexicans from different gangs to respect each other.

You forgot the rich
