One of the aspects of our reality in the United States now is the defamatory tone of the immigration debate and how that immigration debate has slandered an entire race of people. It has been reckless beyond imagining, it has been reckless in a way that is beyond precedent.

It is something that we absolutely said, "No mas" during the election of 2008...It's why Obama is elected now. He is the first, I maintain, Latino president. He's the first brown president. Why? He could be, and he looks Puerto Rican. And the, and the, the point is he would not be president but for the Latino vote and the Latino vote was for the first time in my lifetime an expression of a community understanding its responsibilities, getting up, going to the polling place, and saying, "No mas."

Wow, just be a specific shade of brown and suddenly you're latino? Gee, that doesn't sound racist/race baiting whatsoever!

You know, here is the deal.....there is so much confusion about why hispanic has become synomous with the illegal immigration debate. It has been pointed out so many times that not all illegals are hispanic (very true) and that it is unfair to assume a person is illegal because they 'look' hispanic or speak Spanish (also very true).

But then you get an idiot like Geraldo proudly recounting how the hispanic population has said 'no mas' to illegal immigration enforcement. The very use of 'no mas' is inflammatory and yet again ties hispanics with illegality.

According to this moron, at least half of the ‘black’ folks in this country would be considered Latino.

Geraldo is not even authentically Latino. He practices Judaism not Catholicism.

Well, that doesn't make any sense. Latino/hispanic is an ethnicity not a religion. Thats like saying someone can't be English because they are Catholic.

Hola, Benicarrita! Do you have any plans on joining National Council on La Raza now that Geraldo says you could probably pass for Puerto Rican?

<< immigration debate has slandered an entire race of people>>

The problem is that illegal alien supporters lump legal and illegal together when it suits their purpose, in order to make people think Americans are against an entire ethnic group, and immigration in general. If they'd be honest, and specify legal, or illegal, there wouldn't be this problem. It's entirely the fault of illegal alien supporters if an entire population has to bear the brunt of anit-illegal immigration sentiments. They're the ones who chose to combine legal, and illegal.

Absolutely! You really nailed it with this post. As you said, the supporters of illegal aliens only have themselves to blame lumping all immigrants together rather than using the proper descriptions of legal vs illegal.
