While I've never been a believer in shooting people, or drowning them in canals, or suffocating them in a parked boxcar in 120 degree heat....and would never lay a hand on an illegal myself...I realize that illegal immigration has gotten WAY out of hand, and must stop...and when people DO DIE, I don't blame canals, or other pieces of infrastructure.

I'm reminded of a documentary some time ago discussing a new type of ABSOLUTELY LETHAL 'Super Fence' surrounding a dozen or so of California's 40-odd state prisons...it was 'new tech', and quite controversial, as its purpose was to KILL anyone who touched it..period.

But this wasn't exactly a fence that 'reached out and fried innocent people'. Inside the fence were two rows of NON-lethal fence; each would have to be breached in order to reach the 'live' fence. All prisoners were aware of the fence; additionally, warning signs and motion detectors were in place to ensure that the 'daring'...or the 'stupid'...didn't somehow 'accidentally' get fried.

"This is terrible", observed the reporter. "How many people have been killed on these fences around California, at the various prisons where they're installed"?

"Not a single one", replied the warden. "The fences are 100% lethal; everyone knows this; and to date, after several years in service, not one inmate has ever attempted to cross these fences".

So here's a 'nasty' way to keep people where they belong; yet not one injury has resulted. So on the day someone does finally try an escape, and dies as a result, will we be saying "Fences kill people"? Probably, some of us will say exactly that. But I believe that stupidity, in this case, will be the culprit. Fences can't kill people; neither can canals, unless people go where they shouldn't. Which is a good reason NOT to do so.
