State senator to introduce immigration bill

Updated: Jan 21, 2009 1:58 PM PST

Senator Mike Delph

Indianapolis - An Indiana lawmaker is introducing what he calls the toughest immigration bill in the country.

Illegal immigration has been a controversial issue at the Indiana Statehouse for the last couple of years, drawing heated debate in both chambers from both sides of the issue. Senator Mike Delph from Carmel will make it a third year by filing Senate Bill 580. The bill is designed to punish those who harbor, transport or employ illegal immigrants in Indiana.

But it does have a "safe harbor" provision for businesses who verify work status of employees by using the federal e-verify system that confirms citizenship.

"If you use it, you have immunity from any kind of adjudication or prosecution from this proposal," Delph said.

Under the bill, businesses that employ illegals face three years probation. Second time violators face a 10-day suspension of their business license and third time violators face the permanent loss of their business license in the state.

If all goes well, Reyes objection will be worthless.

Let’s hope it passes. Of course, it will receive much opposition from IA Hispanic advocacy groups, and the anti-American ACLU.

If the above groups were smart: they would throw the illegals under the bus to save their own hides----------Ruben Navarette has all but done so. Some of his rhetoric as of late sounds like a copy/paste from the anti illegal immigration folks' handbook

Another thing is that if this bill somehow passes it would scare Southern Indiana illegals straight into Kentucky which has a do-nothing governor named Steve Beshear. It would be good if it passes but sadly I would likely be screwed by illegals AGAIN like I am in Northern VA (moving to KY in May.)

Or they'll head for Michigan and Illinois.
If then head your way.....
Then Ky will have to pass a Bill, that's one of the objects of the game.........follow the leader.

Probably wants to get into politics and realizes that he can't keep up his agenda that is angering the majority of US Citizens.

I guess you should feel safe then. They wont pass it. I dont think they will flee to KY. Southern Indiana is more a hillbilly area and we dont play around with you. Thats what our woods and cornfields are used for there is more than corn in Indiana lol. (jk) but we realy are a mean bunch when you try to impose on us and KY isnt much diff. Id think them to run to Michigan Ill or OH. Most of the illegals around downtown Indy are gang related Im sure they would run for Detroit "big game". But as I said you have no worries they wont pass it. This states a come screw me state.
