Found in this article from June 2010 (http://www.kwqc.com/global/story.asp?s=1257832 - broken link): Illinois Tax Free Holiday - KWQC-TV6 News and Weather For The Quad Cities -
Iowa's sales tax weekend is Friday and Saturday, August 6th and 7th. Illinois' is from August 6th through the 15th.

The Illinois holiday does include school supplies, which Iowa's tax-free weekend does not.

Also a good summary of all state tax holidays here.

Does anyone REALLY think that this tax-free back to school thing is really going to amount to much savings? Please. It is not on big ticket items like laptops or computers. So a few clothes and backpacks? Just a lame attempt from Quinn to score some votes in november. If he wanted to score more points, he should have included the big items that people need to buy.

I found this site that lists the dates for tax free back to school shopping in participating states and Illinois IS participating this year. August 6-8 for us.

Sorry, my previous post said that IL's tax free back to school holiday is Aug.6-8 (info from Huffington Post website). I found the State of IL dept. of revenue site that lists the dates as Aug.6-15 as some others posted. This site lists all supplies/clothes that are included or not included for the tax break.
