I am possibly moving to Belvidere and have been looking at houses online. Are there areas I don't want to consider? I've heard the older part of town has more issues, but I don't even know where that is. Is it north, south, east, west side of town? Specific streets? I don't need a new or large house, but would like a safe area as I'm a single woman living by myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd just like some guidelines for when I can get there in person to check houses out. Thanks.

Ask the police department. They know the areas where they get the most trouble calls. If you are going to buy contact a local realtor who has been in business for several years.

The downtown area of Belvidere is on State Street and the river. All of the homes within that area are all smaller and older. There are some very nice homes on the NE side of state (like East Lincoln and East Hurlbut).
Just to the north of there are some newer homes (Russel and Witbeck road)
There is another subdivision to the SE right off of Route 20 (Farmington Way / Huntington). These are a little larger homes but there are a few deals scattered in there.
Another nice subdivision is to the north off of Beloit Road and Burnett Dr.
