I have just accepted a job in the Danville Area and was told that I should live in the Champaign / Urbana area and commute; due to bigger town, safer neighborhood etc.

I am in no way affiliated with UIC and we're looking for looking for more of townhouse, subdivision, single-family homes (hopefully with a backyard for our dogs) to live. We don't have children so School District is not an important factor on our list.

I am asking for recommendations for location of residential area, not in the terms of north south east west (I suck with those type of directions). More terms of street intersections, landmarks, Parks, supermarket things such as that so that we can kind of map things out.

We plan on renting for a year prior to buying. we are looking to rent in the $900 range. we could go all the way up to $1,200 if need be but what but would like to stay within the $900-1000 price range.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What is the Bed/Bath do you need? Urbana is a good place to live if you 1) want to rent and 2) don't have kids in a school district. Urbana's schools aren't as good as Champaign's which is funny since they are next to each other. You can certainly get at least a 2/2 for your budget. We rent a 4/2.5 townhome in Champaign for 1250/mo.

You should check the crime map as that will help stay out of the more crime ridden areas. https://www.crimereports.com/map?CRSearch=urbana%20il

I personally wouldn't commute 30min a day and u can find places in danville to live in with your price range! But, I recommend staying anywhere near Springfeild Ave/Prospect ave/kirby ave in Southwest champaign. More towards Savoy. Even near centennial High School is a good area.

Maybe consider looking into Mahomet rentals as well. Have you ever been to Danville? I havent been there since early 2000s but there were nice cheap rentals back then in a nice, quiet neighborhood.
