I knew this would happen and I prepared myself for it in advance, but WOW, I really have nothing in common with the people out here. I realized this after attending a local festival.

I just moved from Chicago to the Watseka IL area. I think the biggest issue for me is that I'm gay (I voted for trump too lol) and living in rural America now. Cheap affordable comfortable living comes at the price of being socially isolated. How accepting of LGBT people are the locals out in Iroquois County...for real? I'm not perceptible, and can hide it easy, but that only goes so far when making friends...especially with women who often wanna get me in the bedroom. Good looking men are plentiful out here but they're all with their wives and their kids in tow in Walmart. Is anyone in the same boat as me? I'm looking to make some cool friends out this way, because trips back to Chicago aren't exactly easy to do all the time now. I'd love to start a click of friends, gay and/or straight, and be able to get together every now and then. I'm also a GOOD real estate agent who can assist anyone with their needs in Illinois AND Indiana. My license is held by one of the most prestigious brokerages in Chicago, and I'm keeping it there.

Replies are welcome and appreciated.

Looks like you're in the middle of nowhere. Why Watseka? Wouldn't the various dating sites be a good place to find hookups?

You're a RE agent and didn't research or realize what type of area you were moving to?

Illinois isn't covered border-to-border with a dense, culturally diversified population. I don't know why this is such a surprise to people when they venture out of the Chicago area. The urban/rural divide is well known.

Okay? That's how most of the smalltown midwest is.

Watseka sucks; my brother moved there about 10 years ago, and left after a couple of years for a variety of reasons; i hated it when I went to see him.

nothing to do there, and, definately nothing for someone who is city activity oriented..
As someone else said, as a realtor, its surprising your pre move research didnt reveal this to you..

I stopped at a Casey's somewhere in downstate IL and asked for a chicken wrap to be made with the spinach wrap instead of the white flour one. The lady looked at me like I was ordering in Ancient Egyptian language. I pointed to the menu showing where it specifically said they had white, spinach, and tomato types of bread wraps and she said "oh, you mean the green one instead of the white one!"
