WTHR - Indianapolis News and Weather - Everyone buckles up starting Sunday

Bickel said, "The new law includes every person in all trucks, SUV's, and cars..in the front seat or in the back. In pick up trucks and SUV's where center of gravity is much higher we find a lot of people being ejected out of the vehicles and basically, when you get ejected, your chances are not very good.",,,snip,,,
From what have read/heard, there is NO grace period - cops will be issuing tickets, immediately. Be aware, be safe.

Well, there goes the entire state. Who is leading this attack on authentic Hoosier culture?!
Where is the seatbelt for the dawg in the back of the pickemup truck? Someone should sue Ford!

I enjoyed driving past cops after removing my seatbelt in my work vehicle too. Now I don't have that luxury. Oh well. More safety for me anyway. I oppose it being a mandatory law because the only person that'll be going through the windshield is me anyway. I'm insured. lol

But that doesn't stop me from wearing it anyway, even if it wasn't the law.

I remember growing up in Indiana before the seatbelt law. Then when it was being enacted, my parents had a fit, but now, it's like second nature ... get in a vehicle, buckle up. I think that New Hampshire is the only state now that doesn't have a seatbelt law.

AAAHHH-the seat belt law.
MY husband growing up in NH and I from Indiana know the seat belt law all to well. Yes, in the last 5yrs I know the seat belt law has [u]really been enforced. As for I know longer live in Indiana, but come back to visit family. Lets just say we've had a couple seat belt violations ourselves ;-) One was out in the middle of no-where, you know a 4-way stop surrounded by cornfields(Seat belt check). My husband couldn't believe it, of course I did. He's like where out in the middle of no-where, I'm like, I know, I know. I know it's really not a laughing matter, because seat belts do save lives. But it does make me chuckle to see my husband scurry to put on his seat belt now when we enter the state of Indiana....

I walked away from a head on collision at 50 mph with an overpass support pillar on I-70 mm57 eastbound. I was wearing my seat belt and would be dead had I not been. You can still see the marks on the pillar from the cab of my semi scraping it. Wear the darn thing. It will save your life.

Seat belts saves resources. It's just as much about resources as it is about lives. I always use this example:

You leave the house to get a gallon of milk and your spouse is feeding the kids. You get into an injury accident, however minor, and a fire company and medics are called to your location. Meanwhile, your child starts choking on a hot dog at home, the closest fire company is responding to you, because you didn't wear a seatbelt and now help is coming to your son from a distance. Believe me folks, for the safety of your own family, the place you want these fire companies is at their station. Wear your seat belt.

Seatbelts save lives. I never put my foot on the gas pedal until I strap in. It's not that hard folks.
