You will do fine here as long as you can get used to the cold winters!

I think comparing Indy to Southern Indiana is ... difficult. Indy is a city. Most of Southern Indiana is rural. Not all of it and some parts there are places I don't think are rural but are moreso than the city. Even with rural areas, there are towns...not cities, but towns.

From what I envision of TX, rural -or- city life, pride in being a Texan is what matters and being a Texan means you can wear a Cowboy(girl) hat and boots in the middle of a big city and not be looked oddly at for it. Being a Texan, though, you probably also don't give a rat's pattootie what people think of you if you're showin' your pride-right? :-) Moving from one big city to another won't be as much of a culture shock. Moving from rural TX to Indy, that might be a culture shock! But be proud of who you are and you'll be fine.

I moved from a big city (smaller than Indy) to "southern Indiana" (Paoli) last year and all I can say is that it was the most amazing, BEST decision my husband and I ever made!!!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!! Let us know how it works out for ya! and by all means - WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know exactly how you feel! I was a lifelong MI resident until July '09 when we moved to Richmond, VA. It was SO hard to leave and I have 4 children but God pulled us though. You need to know that it's the right decision for you and not feel bitter. It was a HARD MOVE for us, but I knew it was God's plan for us. We are now strongly considering a move to Indiana and as much as I'll say that I don't like VA, I'm scared to move again! I feel like I've started to make friends and settle in.. it's hard!! Praying for ya!

I guess I'm posting this as a question of, what would you do? Do you think perhaps a southern girl could be happy in the north?

Based on what you've written - I'd say not. You'll always return home and you'll never be happy here. I've seen this everywhere I've moved over the past 4 decades. If you can't live in heapie, cheapie Tejas, I don't know where it's cheaper here - really be honest with yourselves.

Maybe the utilities are, but with no jobs to transfer, you'd better be independently wealthy to move into the rust belt! CASH is KING when it comes to buying a home. We've got the sports market cornered - Indy Colts, Chicago Bears, Cincy Bengals; the Cubs, Sox and Reds; Blackhawks. Plenty to keep you occupied.

I don't think you'll ever be happy here, because it's not HOME!
