I uprooted my family and moved from Louisville(KY) to Paoli(IN) last year and we've never, not once, thought of moving back. My hubby commutes an hour to work (still in Louisville) and I work from home. The people (here) are amazing, friendly and helpful. Living here makes us happy.

Well i have lived in several states, and usually end up back in Indiana just because housing is dirt cheap. I'm like a gypsy and like to try new states and wonder around the country. Indiana is cheap, really that's all i can say good about it. Pretty safe too.
People are people everywhere i go, don't really notice a difference anymore except some places have more religious people then others.
I have no family so I can't comment on that, but it seems Indiana is very family oriented and that kinda sucks for drifters like myself. lol.
Not into snow or cold so the weather (to me) sucks big time. If you want a place to raise a family, buy a house, give up and settle down than this state will do you well.

Just fine in NWI - I've been in twenty states over the last 55 years, and this is home.

Thanks for the insights, keep them coming. We are thinking of getting out of h*llhole of IL and retiring in NW IN.

yep - and you guys have cheap gas there. it is ridiculous what we pay here. The state is run by "the machine" and many people are tired of it.

I'm from a small farm/fishing town, everybody knows everybody, kind of looking for somewhere else like that, maybe bigger so I can take hold of some opportunities. I'm going to school for automotive management and hopefully I will be able to get a "high-paying" job, but I don't know where to go. Thanks for the help.
Indiana does have a lot of wonderful places. I'm from NW Indiana, and it's great for its proximity to Chicago and the beautiful Indiana Dunes State Park and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (some photos in an album on my profile page if you're curious). However, the job market is horrible in this area. Job-wise, you'd do better elsewhere in the state.
