We are moving to Indy in the spring. Looking to rent a single family home ~20 min or less of Meridian St & South St, where my husband will be working.

Greenwood and NoVA are not the same but Meridian and South can be reached within that timeframe from Greenwood. You may want Meridian-Kessler or Butler-Tarkington 46th up to say Kessler Blvd (N-S). Puts you close to IMA, Butler and the Canal. Of course at BU you have Holcomb Gardens , the observatory and Carillon.

US 36 to Avon is kindof a pain during heavy traffic times. At the moment, there are no trails.
Greenwood is 20/35 minutes from downtown. It has a small trail (see map link below), and there is also a trail along Smith Valley Road but it is more of a sidewalk than anything else.
I live on the south side of Indianapolis (outside of I465). Overall its a nice area, and people are friendly. I wish we had more green places and trails, but its a lazy world.
Lakes are hard to come by, unless you count retention ponds. You have to pay to get into Eagle Creek Park
. I miss the green trail and lakes where I use to live in eastern Pennsylvania, but I can't afford the housing prices out their.
