Sorry-I had to get rid of my car when I got laid-off-if I get this job at Methodist it requires being on call. Although they have call rooms available I would like to be within walking distance. I was told the area around Methodist is safe to walk through-is this true? If not,how reliable and quick to respond are the cab companies?

The area isn't all that bad. Just keep your wits about you just like with any other area and you'll be fine. I used to live on 13th and Meridian and never had a problem.

Yep.. and just to add to that, I drive through there daily on the way to work and have noticed that this area has improved a lot in the last few years especially a block east of Meridian along Pennsylvania avenue. There are some beautiful homes/apartments/condos that have been recently rennovated.... I'd still be very careful walking around at night but overall, not a bad area in my opinion.

The area around Methodist Hospital would make me feel uncomfortable, especially at night.

Methodist is in the city. If you ask someone who is not familiar with the city or used to the city, they are going to express fear at the neighborhood. Someone who lives in the city is more apt to think the neighborhood is ok. I've known people who lived in the area and walked through there at all hours with no problem. Does that mean you'll think it is safe? Not neccessarily, but I would be ok with living in that area and walking to the hospital.
