Hello folks, today i have a dilemma that i would like to get some input on.

Normally I take the bus to school, but on occasion I take my summer car (now that the weather is decent) instead. But if i wanted to park in the school parking lot I would have to pay a fee to get a parking pass. Which wouldn't be an issue, but there is only a few weeks left of school and I only would be driving every few days. Luckily i have a friend who lives across the street from the school and his family has always been kind and nice about people parking in front of their house as long as they know beforehand and the car is gone after school (since they work before school starts and after school ends they don't even have to look at it.) But recently someone has placed a sticker on my card window saying that this is the "Final warning" and that my car will be towed, the sticker looks like one that you could purchase online, with no contact information or towing company name of any sort. I also know that they have one neighbor who dose not like to see my busted car parked there and has left a note telling me to get a parking pass before, and I think that it's these people who want me gone. I was wondering if they had any legal right to call to get my car towed, it's always parked correctly and in front of my friends house. And if they did call to get my car towed, is there any legal action that I could take.

Is there a sign where you're parking telling you not to park there? What school, what neighborhood? The answer you seek, would depend on the info you declined to share.

Also, not sure if a similar ordinance exists in Indy, but in Fishers you can park in the street but not across from another's driveway.

What Toxic Toast said.

Generally speaking, unless there are restrictions, most modern (post 1980) residential streets have curbs, and you can park where you like, barring any overt exceptions (which often are posted on signs, esp. in urban areas where on street parking is more common).

Just because a person doesn't like your beat-up car sitting in front of his/her house doesn't mean that person has a right to tow you. That says everything about that person's concern of image and a sense of entitlement toward the street--which is public ROW and does not belong to him/her.

I have only seen cars towed if they have been sitting and haven't moved for some time. They usually come out and chalk your tires before they do this. I had a truck that got a flat and some jack ass neighbor complained about it. Wasn't even flat for 3 days and I hadn't noticed. Luckily another neighbor called me up and told me they chalked my tire and I had a flat and I took care of it.

I honestly would park my car there as often as possible now that they think the own the street.

My best suggestion is to contact the local police department for that area, easy enough info to find, go to the station and ask about any specific parking restrictions for that area. And then follow whatever information they provide to you.

If it is Indianapolis, the police will probably tell him to ask someone else and never call again.
