l am relocating in July to Indy, working downtown. Currently live in Chicago. I grew up in Fort Wayne, so I am excited about getting a house again in a neighborhood. I spent a few days looking in the Lawrence/Geist area. I put an offer on a house but they countered and wanted list price which I think is crazy in this market. So now it is time to look again. I like the north/north east suburbs but if I go to Fishers I think the commute might be too long, although still shorter than the commute to work currently. I have read many of the threads and just get more confused. I don't want to be so far west like Avon, or too south like Greenwood. Any suggestions where a good area is, homes built mid nineties to 2000's. Thanks for any input. I am not sure now if I should rent for 6 months and take my time. I am tired of living in apartments though. thanks

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. I'm surprised to hear that sellers are pushing for a full price offer in this market! We're looking in Fishers/Noblesville and there are lots of nice looking houses available all in the same price range (160-180). Do you not want to look further in the same neighborhood where your last deal fell through?

Brownsburg or Plainfield is a good choice, giving there close location to I-70 and 74. Avoid the east side. The commute from Carmel and Greenwood is not as bad as u think it might be.

Look at Murphy's Landing area of Perry Twp. (Stop 11 & Bluff Rd. Very convenient location with a nice straight shot downtown on Bluff Road.

The commute from Avon is about 30 minutes, I hear. I don't commute, so I'm not sure but there are a lot of people here who can answer that for you. There are houses in that price range all over the place, and a lot of them are move-in ready.

Personally, I spent about 2 months in an apartment to get to know the different areas before I picked out a house.

thanks everyone for the suggestions. i'll look in the other areas, and maybe being in an apt for a few months is a good idea.

Castleton wouldnt be a bad option at all. Its on the far NE side and close to 465/69, Castleton Square and the Fashion Square. The commute during rush hour is probably 30-minutes give or take.

Thanks for the info. Decided to rent in the Castleton area. 91st/Allisonville. Looks like there is a lot going on in that area. This will give me time to look for a home and the area I would really enjoy living in. Are there any must eat at restaurants (mexican preferred) in the area, or things I should check out once I move?
