I used to be a conspiracy nut, but now I think that 'privacy' is somewhat overrated unless you've got something to hide. I'm not nearly as paranoid as I used to be... within reason. If they were out there arresting people for posting pictures of themselves smoking pot on facebook maybe I'd care, but the fact is they are not.
They don't want terrorists blowing up bombs on federal buildings, but other then that, they don't really care about your little personal lives. I trust the feds, google, etc. more than I trust the average person on the street, to be perfectly honest. They haven't really given me reason to do otherwise at this point.
How ironic that such a big conspiracy nut and privacy advocate has gone to just not caring... it's experience and observation that has brought me to this opinion, rather than hearsay and internet speculation on forums. Spend enough time on a conspiracy forum like Godlikeproductions and you see all their predictions of doom and gloom, all their drama and sensationalism, ultimately turns out to be crapola.
The only exception to this is the ongoing war on drugs, with 50% of prisoners being incarcerated for drug crimes. I do not do drugs, however think that the 'war on drugs' is being fought a bit aggressively, and is a waste of time and resources, so if you do drugs, you probably have reason to want your privacy.
Spend 6 years or more in a active duty restricted MOS and you'll have plenty of reason to want your privacy.
Honestly there is no right to privacy anymore. Welcome to the 21st century!
Shouldn't we at least amend our laws to reflect the new paradigm? If we no longer have privacy then why do we have the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution?
The real problem is that the lives of innocent people are becoming more transparent while the actions of our governments are becoming more opaque. That's a sure recipe for tyranny.
