Verizon, a month ago gave us all (verizon fios users) upload speeds that are equal to our download speeds and they did it for free.

Saying that, I am at the next to highest top tier for speed (300/300Mbps) and it clocks at that speed and a little over when I run an independent speed test.

I can download or upload a two hour video in 40 seconds.

The next tier is 500/500 Mbps and cuts that 40 second download time to 24 seconds. 8)

Verizon's speeds are what they say they are .. for me at least.
(My neighbor has that 500/500 tier)

Please use this speed test site and post the results so we can see what your pings are.

Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Here's mine as an example.

The bandwidth isn't bad but the 27 millisecond ping is terrible considering that the server is less than 50 miles away.

My experience with FIOS was that pinging servers at least 50 mi away would still return like 8ms... i bet I have a screenshot of it somewhere around here..

edit: here they are 15ms was at my old apt:

They don't even offer these speeds anymore, this was 4 years ago.

Verizon sells three-state territory, including 1.6 million FiOS users | Ars Technica

Florida, Texas, and California, some may recognize as the former GTE telephone company has been sold to Frontier. The (former) GTE merged with (former) Bell Atlantic to form Verizon.

I have time warner 300mbs in queens NY and I get the same speed 24/7 using every speed test sites any time day or night. It is not like the old days all of us on a Docsis 2.0 network and during peak hours it used to slow down. Time warner upgraded their infrastructure to Docsis 3.0 16 bonded downstream channels and 4 upstream channels allowing us to get the full 300/20 all day...PS it is cheap too as I pay about $60

...and if nobody caught the news, the comcast deal is off. However... seems as if there is now a deal with TWC and Charter.

Anyone looking to sign up with Verizon fios should first carefully look at their NEW tv channel package pricing. Each additional 'pack' costs $10, possibly adding $50 to your monthly bill. At month 25, you could be paying $205 a month And that doesn't include any 'premium' channels.

That's about the same as Charter / AT&T is here. By the time you add HD, and a couple of second tier specialty packages, your in the $200 range.

Did you ever think you would be dropping $200 a month for 5 or 6 tv channels a few hours a night and surf the web once in awhile?
