About 20 years ago, I used the same password for every single site. Over time, the rules tightened and/or I was forced to change my password from time to time, so about 5 years after my 1st password, I had my 2nd one that I use on some sites and the first one on others. Today's I'm at about 6 or 7 different ones.

Zero. I have 2 or 3 Go-To patterns. But every single website has a different password. It's easy to do by just incorporating the website url into the pattern. That makes it easy to remember, but gives you a unique password everywhere.

I did that too, until I got a notice that my ebay account had been suspended due to suspicious activity. I was unable to access it until I called my internet provider and also changed my internet dial-up password. So now I use a separate password for each account (sigh).

I have 3 total passwords that I've used for all sites for many years.

However, due to some sites getting very picky, I recently installed a password manager as the number of p/w I use is now growing.

2 very complicated ones for my banks.
1 very complicated one for me email.
1 for nearly everything else. Netflix, forums, Pandora. Ones that will not hurt me if it is compromised.

Password tip: make a memorable sentence and use the first letter of each word. This will at least defeat dictionary-style password attacks.

For example:
People who live in glass houses have to answer the door. (Pwlighhtatd)
