Assume WordPress, already hosted and ready for significant work.
Assume minimal skill with code terminology, servers, FTP, etc.

What questions would you recommend one should ask in an interview with a prospective developer and/or designer?
And, what answers are "good" answers to those questions?

For developers?

I'm uninterested in quizzes and gotcha questions. Language corner cases are boring and can be looked up when needed.

What I'll do is really dredge through a resume. Make people explain to me how something worked if they claim to have done it, really flesh it out. It overcomes nervousness and is excellent at winkling out folks who overstate their background.

Ask them about SEO, if the first words out of their mouth do not include the word "content" thank them for their time and move on.

There are few important questions should ask when interviewing web developer.

Can you write table-less XHTML? Do you validate your code?
What are a few of your favourite development tools and why?
What sized websites have you worked on in the past?
Show me your code!
What skills and technologies are you the most interested in improving upon or learning?
