1995 - a 3600 modem that used to disconnect every 20 minutes for no good reason...It took me almost as long then to download a high res picture than it takes now to download a movie
Around 1996 for home. However, my dad's business got Internet access in late 1991-early 1992. I remember one site that had arcade games on it, and being a child at the time, I would beg to go to dad's office to play the games.
EDIT: I remember my friend got it in 1994, and it was also the year the first downloadable song came out. I believe it was "Headfirst" by Aerosmith, i used to think it was the coolest thing ever.
April 24, 1996. A small ISP opened its doors on March 1st of that year for testing and then opened to the public on April 1st. The day after my new computer was delivered from Gateway2000 (back when Gateway2000 was a kickass computer maker) I signed up for access. (Old computer was a 386 with a 9600 modem. Ha!)
Three years later the ISP hired me and I stayed there until the company changed hands in 2006. I loved that job.
1994 for me when I brought my first PC The sales guy said the 120 mb was so large we would never fill it up RIGHT
I remember thinking that when I upgraded my first system to a massive 250mb drive, and I upgraded the modem to a brand new (and expensive) 33.6 modem(I thought I was flying along). My excitement came when I found I could overclock my 75mhz p1 to a speedy 90mhz. I was in my glory
Winter of 1994. On an old Centris Mac, LOL. Wow . . . those were the days. I was doing research and discovered Gophers and Veronica as ways of getting docs straight from sources. Things sure are different now.
Yeah, I remember the good old days of gopher. I first connected in 1994 through my university. I used to use ftp to download song lyrics and other documents.
