Any content delivered should be your own, IMHO. Don't put up with your host injecting ads and other crap. Get a paid hosting account somewhere - Hostgator has very cheap plans and they're pretty good.

When a site can be had for just a few bucks a month, why share space with someone elses' ads to save that few bucks?

Well, some of the content on my site could **** off some environmentalists. And our local area is filled with them.....

Oh, well, no big deal. Traffic wasn't that high in the past year and I haven't updated some info on the site in several months. I'll probably just let it die, it served its purpose...I guess.

lol environmentalists.... I run into those all the time. I'm big into taking my Jeep off road. BUT, I am part of tread lightly. We stick to the paths created and clean up as we go... but trust me we have run into a lot of people that do not like us.

BTW, I work in Security and I highly doubt your little website hosted on Tripod was attacked. If that were the case, the attacker would most likely have access to all of tripod, which is just hard to believe.

I wasn't thinking in terms of direct attacks, but just all of the bots and stuff that tend to circulate and take advantage of website weaknesses. You may be right anyway. As I said, I'm know that there is such a thing as website security, but I don't know much about it. Certain scripts can be added to improve such security.

Your problem is that as was mentioned it's a free site and with the free site you get ads.

What I'm seeing is a lot of ads in the html code.
Problem is, you aren't allowed to remove them or you are breaking the terms of service. See what I pasted in below..

What I would do is, make a new "dummy" index file.. I usually name it index1. Then I would try to rebuild it, seeing if the same amount of ads appear. If it does, you should upgrade the account if it bothers you. Years ago when I used to rebuild, I would open the view source, then start pasting things in. It's been years since I used angelfire, but I was able to back it up. Do you have a back up that you can paste into the dummy index page?

I suggest the dummy because I've messed the index up before, some how pasting in more ads.

He has HTML files and they are are vulnerable to nothing, its just a file it doesn't do anything. It's possible for the server to get hacked and for them to get altered but that's really something different. Server side scripting files like PHP or ASP on the other hand that can accept user input either the through the $_POST or $_GET variables can be quite vulnerable if the input is not validated.

Chances are Tripod does not allow server side scripting. If his site was "attacked" it would have been tripods servers that were attacked.

Having said all that what you're seeing is ads injected into your pages by tripod. One issue that may arise is your HTML is not compatible with ad code they are injecting. For example one issue I've been aware of in the past is free forum hosts injecting ads in to all php pages from phpbb, the issue is the stylesheet use the php extension. Plays nice in IR becuse IE will ignore it but completely breaks the stylesheet FF.

As suggested spend a few bucks and get a real host, you can a starter plan for about $5 a month with a lot of features.
