I posted a question earlier about a brokerage I found but think no one answered because they thought I was shilling for them : )
So I won't mention a company in this one.
I trade on margin and want to have a place to move some of my money when (if : ) I make some money to put into some staid stocks or funds that I won't want to trade. Just let it grow. I've tried that with the firm I have my margin account / web access and I wind up trading that money also. The farther away / harder to get to woudl be best. Some people say that's what investment advisors are for. But that's 1% at least.
What company would you recommend for low costs / don't mind small amounts (a few thousand dollars to start)?
That said, I do get $5 trades where i am now. I'm looking for lower than that.
Schwab will let you trade some etfs completely free. They call them "OneSource" etfs, and there are about 200 to choose from. It takes $100 to open an account.
Petunia - I'm with Schwab now. Kinda want to get a different broker for the money to squirrel away. I guess I could see if they could create another account but not show it when I log in. And they don't have vanguard funds from what I can see (there's a list of companies on that page... is there a page showing exact list of the 200 funds?
ukrkoz - that's capitalone? they charge $6.95 / trade it says.
sorry, I found the list and yeah, it's ETFs, not mutual funds.
Again, not to shill for them but has anyone heard of stockpile.com? They ONLY deal with small dollar amounts, 99c a trade. They only buy at end of day.

Nope, never heard of them. Why pay "only" 99c a trade when you can pay nothing? What is it you are wanting to buy that you can't buy commission free at Schwab? If you are just wanting to set some money aside and let it grow, an index etf is a fine choice.
E Trade is $9.99 per trade but I like that they send you this little security key gadget with a numeric password that changes every couple of minutes. You add it to your log in password. I don't want some Russian hacker placing rogue trades with my account.
