So,
my wife and I have discussed what to do with the extra money we have left over each month. After paying our bills...putting some "emergency" money away, we have a $1,000. a month left over to save/invest etc. We had discussed a CD Ladder (poor rated right now), purchase Gold and silver (have some already, waiting for a pullback), start an additional IRA (untouchable till 59 1/2 like it somewhat liquid)or purchase stock(Volatile, but accessible in case of an emergency) After much thought, we have decided to go with the stock purchase plan. We have been doing this now for about three months now, and are building a nice little portfolio. Our criteria for our stock "nest egg" is that the company must pay a dividend of at least 2% ....be a company that has stood the test of time (Johnson & Johnson, ExxonMobil, Proctor and Gamble etc.) must offer dividend reinvestment and be a direct purchase stock. I would like to have twelve to fourteen stocks in the portfolio, thus after the that, I can send additional purchases to each one later. As of now, I currently have:
ExxonMobil (XOM)
MGE Energy (MGEE)
Reynolds American (RAI)
Home Depot (HD)
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)
United Parcel (UPS)
Nike (NKE)
Kelloggs (K)
AbbVie Inc (ABBV)
Hasbro Inc (HAS)
Caterpillar (CAT)
On my radar....
Lockheed Martin (LMT)
Coca Cola (KO) or Pepsi
Union Pacific (UNP)
Looking to add five more .....open to suggestions and/or ideas.
** the current direct purchase site I am currently using is *Computershare*
I do like Boeing, but they require you to purchase 50 shares to start 50 X $186.59= $9,329.50...which at this time does not work for us. We must keep our investments to $250 per week. I will look at CSX, Thank you.
my opinion is anyone asking what stocks to buy on an internet forum belongs in diversified funds , not in the game of trying to analyze individual company potential and risk as well as what the competitors have on their drawing boards .

well why would you think anyone of us has the ability to pick just the right stock ,in just the right industry ,at just the right time ,in just the right market sentiment and even if we did get that right , we still have to know what the competitors are doing .
then it all changes tomorrow ,.
you may as well do this by the seat of your own pants in my opinion as your guess is as good as ours .
OP is asking for ideas that he or she will investigate him/herself. No need to shut down this thread mathjak. If you are bereft of ideas just don't post.
The gentleman has a valid point. While it's entertaining to chat about various individual-company stocks, and potentially even educational, it's worth noting our usual disclaimers. For example, "extra money" from the family budget, unless it is truly "extra" in the sense of being superfluous, probably belongs in something less risky than individual stocks, unless one has suitable experience.
At the risk of now being branded a hypocrite, I've been looking at T-Mobile and Activision, as stocks of potential interest.
