Curious what others are shooting for? I'll probably be working until 60+

Do you feel this calculator is fairly accurate? https://smartasset.com/retirement/retirement-calculator

For those that are already retired, what expenses surprised you? Are you concerned you may run out of cash before you pass or are you living pretty comfortable?

I started looking at it but quit. Go to the online brokerage and mutual funds and use their calculators. In general they are good to get you thinking and letting you change your assumptions.

No surprises. I think the more you work on identifying what could go wrong the fewer surprises you will have. For example you buy a new home. Better budget a new roof, replacement A/C etc.

I'm aiming for next year. I'll be 58, closer to 59.

Goal is before 50 (in 13 years). We'll see.

Goal is 55 or 56, but could probably do it now at age 48 if willing to move to a cheaper area...but it would be pretty lean even in a cheaper area at this point.

My goal is not to retire. My goal is to find a job I enjoy where I can work 20 hours a week and then make money playing music which I've played my whole life to supplement the rest.

There's also a good chance I die ~ age 60. So, there's also that...

Shooting for 60-ish. Health coverage is a big wildcard, and a huge benefit of working.

I tried the calculator. It seems to make very simplistic assumptions about taxes, so it overestimates the gross income we'll need in retirement. Other than that limitation it looks okay to me.

that is kind of what i am doing . i gave up playing drums for decades after doing it full time . i have gotten back in to it big time the last two years devoting hours a day to it. eventually i hope to turn it in to some studio work that pays .
