I STILL, with 30 minutes to go, couldn't tell you and wouldn't be surprised by a gain or loss of 1000 points.

Just noticed.. What the heck is going on with expedia? It's down dang near 20% today.

Good luck to those who are in it for the long haul. Ride it out. It's their money til then.
You've taken your ball and gone home then? Or you don't play well and hence never even got in the "game"? It's really not that hard - come on in and stay awhile - that's the key!

This crash had to do with people and intuitions playing against the market, VIX. They were left short and had to dump stocks to cover the hedges.

Fidelity stated today,
"Fidelity said Friday it has temporarily blocked customers from buying volatility-related products that caught hedge funds and individual investors on the wrong foot this week.
Fidelity halted buy orders for three exchange-traded products linked to a popular trade on market volatility.

I track my investments on a fairly regular basis. Although this last week and a half has been very painful I looked back and outside of my 401 contributions I'm about where I was in the middle of November before the start of trading today. I can live with that.

Institutions not so much dumping stocks, as unwinding positions, closing VOL trades and taking contrary positions to hedge their current positions.

But yes, there have been MANY funds & ETF's that were using leveraged VOL products to create cash flow & yield. They paid the price. MANY firms will be going before the SEC & FINRA within the next 90-120 days.

By year end the DOW will be back to 26,500. This momentary correction will shake out the weak investors. The rest of us continue to hold.
