close your eyes and check your account 10 years from now, you will be surprised how much money you got in there. You won't remember 2018 was a down year.
Well, I'll be getting my first RMD in about 7 years, so hopefully it won't take 10 to surprise me!
Scorched earth is not a good strategy, but it's the path we seem to be on. I don't watch financial news, nor do I have cable anymore, and I determined it's better to avoid the constant scare tactics which can only serve to derail a long term investor off a better path and into the weeds.
The S&P may not end up either flat or in positive territory for 2018. I'm trusting the market over the long term will still be viable and averages will be met over a 10 or 20 yr period.
We only had a few times in history where the stock market dropped 40-50%. The most I expect is 20% correction because we still have a very good economy. Not a recession, not with 3% plus unemployment rate.
the volatility today is not comparable to the older historical volatility . with the lightning fast speeds of sell off's and the common algorithms used i would say we can see far more 30-40% dips from the highs to lows much more frequently independent of recession or not .
that is not true at all . i never rag on O as a stock . what i dislike is people chasing yield and nothing else or thinking stocks are safe because they pay a dividend . O can be quite volatile
Won't be surprised if we go back to levels when Donnie won first half of next year. Seems like a bear market is inevitable. That would be 2100 on the S&P.
