Contributions totaling $98,810.39 over the eight years.
Am I correct that the percentage gain in total is 23% (so 2.875% per annum)?
Or is the total return 18%?
I need to use this information to convince work to change fund options!
Thank you.
You can’t get an accurate picture without knowing the contributions each year ... suppose you had very little money invested until year 6 ....then threw a lot in years 7 and 8 vs putting a lot in 8 years ago and little the subsequent years.....
To get a correct number, you need to account for when your contributions were made. If it's every paycheck you have a lot of data to enter. Assuming contributions were relatively evenly distributed, that's very poor performance (9 years), I would think just the numbers you have would be enough to show that. If it isn't enough to convince them, I'm not sure anything would be.
There is no fund ticker, it's a custom fund made up of a bunch of investments.
I just need a general idea, doesn't need to be 100% accurate. Contributions made pretty evenly over the years.
Isn't it just a math problem that can be calculated?

well, then you can compare with S&P500 and see how you stand. If you had invested your contributions, spread across 108 months equally with your starting balance then your ending would be $232,000 with a MWRR of 11+%. So, your fund underperformed the S&P500 substantially.

Also, since you front loaded some of your capital it would actually be even higher.
Thank you K374!!
