looking at the fidelity insight growth portfolio , which is all actively managed funds , i show it up 25.52% ytd , their unique opportunities portfolio which tries to capitalize on trends is up 29% .
a total market index fund is up just 14.65%
fidelity contra up 27.55% ytd and fidelity blue chip growth up a whopping 47.85% ytd. both have very good long term records .
if we go back to 2002 which is the earliest we can use vti total market fund , 10k in:
contra grew to 73,500
blue chip growth grew to 63,500
vti total market 45,000
