Yea, I have shares in it. At least it is being done to spinoff their streaming service and merge it with Discovery. AT&T shareholders will get shares of the new company. And the $40 billion in cash from the deal will be used to pay down debt. Probably good long term. Bad for income investors though.

What we do is take all dividends, distributions and interest and put it towards next years budget This varies every year so by buffering it for next year we just buffer it and make up any shortfall and in one shot when we set up our income draw for the year

There is justice in this world. AT&T and Directv are the worst people on the planet to deal with. T-Mobile is expanding rapidly and just came to my area. I think they are going to take market share as they offer the same or better product at much cheaper prices.

It was funny watching Squawk yesterday. Cramer almost went mental and he is pretty mental to begin with. God I hate that guy but he makes me laugh.

I love my T-Mobile service. They have a T-Mobile Tuesday app where every week I save on gas, food or apparel.

I’m also a huge baseball fan and got MLBtv for free and I can now watch every game.

.
Southwestern Bell used to be such a great Company. Buying ATT was like Toyota buying Chrysler and changing their name to Chrysler.

From the time they bought ATT they went downhill. And who wants Satellite unless you're forced to?

I didn’t know about the MLB offer. I love baseball. However I get a ‘free” iPhone pro max for switching. Traded in my old iPhone 11 for the price of the papers and fees. Now my monthly payment is aroun d $25 a month less for the unlimited plan. There is a special place in hell for anybody that works or has ever worked for AT&T, their immediate family, and anybody willing to be friends with them.

Directv kept billing me for things I had cancelled months ago. I was on a first name basis with them pretty much. Hour long phone calls several times a month. Utterly incompetent.

AT&T has been a crappy stock giving investors poor returns for many many years …the tradition seems to be continuing even after they finally had one decent year the last 25 years.

Going back 25 years , which is as far back as I could go , they stank as well as you had to take on individual company risk as well as market risk to get Those crappy returns unlike a diversified s&p fund which has only market risk and no individual company risk to be beholden to .

Anyone who has held this stock did very poorly for the risk they took .

Here is a quick comparison starting with 10k with all dividends reinvested .
You can see in 2000 AT&T offered no safety and was beaten up bad . It lost 10% in just this last week ..so much for it being the stock for widows and orphans

Source is portfolio visualizer

The last 3 years you had 10k become

S&p 20,204 ,,
t 9670.00

5. Years
S&p 22,912
T 13,606

10 years
S&p 46,769
T 21,494

15 years
S&p 47,682
T 30,031

20 years
S&p 42,263
T 9500

25 years
S&p 147,776
T 26,411

I warned him this was a dog and the fact it started out lucky this year doing unusually well didn’t matter …

You can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.

Never buy stocks for the dividend , buy them because their total return is good or they are good stocks

Even with all dividends reinvested you basically wasted your invested dollars all these years as well as took on way more risk being held captive to one Company’s outcome ..
