I have heard nothing bad about Newton itself. I do know that a lot of jobs were lost when Maytag closed their plant a few years ago which really made the housing market soft for awhile. I don't know if that's the case or not.

I'm a Realtor that lives in Newton and my husband works for Windstream, is that who your husband is going to work for too? Anyway Newton is a great community. Very family oriented, welcoming to new people and lots of community activism. There are a lot of houses on the market, but that makes for lots of choices and great prices. The next closest community with great schools would be Grinnell which is about 15 minutes of Newton to the East. Grinnell Coledge is there and it's very nice. The houses and taxes are more than Newton though. Let me know if you have any other questions!
