I am going to Cedar Rapids for business next week and plan to stay inone of the hotels near 380 & 33rd SW Ave. How safe is the area? Would I feel safe walking outside of the hotel to/from restaurants? Hotel recommendation?

That is in the more industrial part of town but you should be safe walking to nearby restaurants. Hampton Inn is located there, and I think that should be a good hotel to stay at. There is also a Fairfield Inn nearby.

You'll be fine. ..like said, the area is somewhat industrial but several restaurants and hotels in the area. ..and downtown is only 5 min. cab ride away from there if you want to see a little of that. . don't know what the hotels are off the top of my head..

Thanks for the advice. Although if the downtown is nicer and that close maybe I could stay there if traffic wouldn't be too bad getting back down there in the morning.

Traffic really isn't a problem anywhere in CR, but there isn't a hotel downtown that I can think of (the convention center hotel is currently being remodeled/redesigned). Now that I think of it, the Clarion Hotel (on 33rd) has a sports bar and a restaurant located on site that is pretty nice.

Well in that case it's the Hampton Inn for me. I looked on Tripadvisor and the Clarion was not getting very good reviews. I can always walk over their bar since I don't see anything else in the area and I don't drive even if I have only one drink.

In the area of 33rd St. I'd recommend the Hampton Inn or Fairfield Inn (which is brand new). The Clarion is ok but dated.

There is a Best Western on the opposite side of the river from downtown. The Best Western is located on a street that is not very pedestrian friendly (1st St. East near the I-380 overpass); it's possible to walk to downtown from there but it's a little out of the way (a 10-15 minute walk to restaurants / bars.

I have this question too, but I'm on a really tight budget. Is the Super 8 near the freeway in CR going to be OK?

I think it should be fine. Right next to the Interstate. I've never heard of anything bad happening in the area and is pretty close to the other motels and fast food/family restaurants.

Thanks! I'll be careful, too. I'll be going to bed early and getting up with the chickens.
