One outrageous incident 20 years ago does not a trend make.

I grew up just outside CR, lived in IC, Dubuque for a year and a half, and now in Marion.

Here are my observations as I saw them:
Lots of high paying jobs, but also a lot of manufacturing. CR has a solid economical base because of the wide swath of industries it covers. You should be able to find a job in almost anything you want.
Nightlife could be better, especially for this city's size.
Traffic is not terrible yet but it's getting worse. Rush hour can easily double your transport time. I'd glady take Dubuque traffic over CR's.
Not much tourism in CR. Dubuque definitely has the edge there.
Full service airport. There are a handful of direct flights out of CR but Dbq only goes to Chi-town twice a day.
Manufacturing jobs galore along with tourism in DBQ. They are getting more diversified though with high tech sectors on the south and west sides of town.
DBQ is closer to Chicago and Madison. One hour to Madison, two hours to Milwaukee and 2.5 hours to Chitown. A definite plus.
Nightlife is great. It's not Chicago or Madison so somebody should let the other poster know that . I thought DBQ had great night life. Definitely wins over CR.
Housing is cheaper in DBQ. Mainly because of lower property taxes.
Higher sales tax in DBQ.

I've lived around CR all my life and really dont think the smells are bad. People like to make a big deal out of it. You will get used to the quaker plant.

Ok, to be more exact:
2 hours 10 min. to SW Madison.
2 hours from Downtown DBQ to Waukesha, assuming you don't hit Madison at rush hour.

That is driving 70mph. It's 4 lanes 65mph all the way now.

From Marion it takes me 2 hrs 10 min. to get to SW madison. From Marion it takes 3 hours on the head to get to Waukesha. It used to take almost twice that though. Back when you had to stop in every podunk town between here and Madison

I am a bit confused, how can it take 2 hours and 10 minutes to get to SW Madison from Dubuque and only 2 hours to get to Waukesha which is farther east and near Milwaukee?

Sorry... I haven't had my coffee yet.

From Marion:
2:10 to SW Madison, 3 hrs to Waukesha
From Dupuque:
1:10 to SW Madison, 2 hrs to Waukesha

That is all at 70mph, no stops. I do this drive 5-10 times a year so I have it down pat.

The 4 lane highway sure does make it a breeze to drive to Madison, now if only they can get 4 lane highway from Galena all the way to Chicago.
