I think it's pretty common in all of Division 1 major collegiate athletics, unfortunately.

DIVISION 1 ATHLETICS? Hell, I played NAIA football over 40 years ago and you wouldn't believe the number of academically incompetent players on the team. My son played NCAA D-II and the one thing we talked about that we had in common was the prevalence of teammates that shouldn't have even graduated high school.

I LOVE college sports, but if there is a black eye it's the overuse of the moniker "student athlete".

At least Kentucky's basketball program doesn't hide the fact that they're there to promote their players to the NBA after playing their one year of eligibility. Academics be damned. We're a minor league team for the NBA.

I wish that basketball and football would come up with some form of minor leagues for their sports much like baseball has. Otherwise, their programs in all to many instances are just a joke. Let's just be honest about it.

I know exactly which school you're talking about. I've heard two things about it. One is that it's off the charts liberal and the other that it is an excellent academic school.

The state is dotted with little private schools. Some that I know of are really expensive and with very conflicting quality based on who you talk too. What idealistic views each one possesses depends mostly upon what religious affiliation they have. Ultra liberal to ultra conservative and everything in between. Toss in all the public community colleges and Iowans certainly have their choice.

You know it's a liberal school when it has a simultaneously African-American and openly gay president. I don't know if he's the first to hold such an office, but many (maybe even most) institutions of higher learning (even HBCU's) are very traditional. Let's just say that there'd be too much opposition from faculty, students, and alumni to even seriously consider such a candidate at Big State U.

I served with (but not directly under) two officers who graduated from Liberty and one from Brigham Young, and not one of the three were the type of spineless weasels you'd find populating the majority of universities in this country. Smart guys, and gal too, hardly dummies, and best of all they could think on their feet without waiting to be told if their speech/decisions/actions were politically correct or not.

Say what you will about religious schools (of any grade), but I think I would've gotten a more robust and refined education had I attended one.

In my experience, you get acclimated to the cold far quicker, ask my Texan ex whenever he visits during the cold season his southern body quickly adapts. And he handles the heat like a pro as well.

All you need is shorts, a tee-shirt, flip flops, some sweet tea or lemonade and you'll be good to go in about 30 seconds. It makes living life so much easier and so much more convenient.

In those cold temperatures you'll have to dress in layers. That takes about 15 minutes to do it right, and once you're good to go, it's not very comfortable. Often times before you can leave, you have to shovel the driveway so you can get your vehicle out. And then there's also the possibility of the vehicle getting stuck in the snow because the streets haven't been plowed yet. It's such a big hassle in order to go to school or work or to the grocery store

I really never understood why anybody would want to live in such a harsh and cold climate when they don't have to.

Orlando is inland, so you won't have to worry about shark attacks. However, alligators would be plentiful.

Or Pensacola Christian College (has separate stairways for boys and girls) - or Bob Jones University.
