I am from the QC, mostly the Illinois side. I am 29, so I have traveled a lot as an adult but I am looking to move back after I finish school just for a bit. I lived in Waterloo by the river in 2021 and I liked it, but Waterloo doesn't offer a lot to do as far as activities. I am looking for a place that has more night life, like lounges for people my age, a nice gym, and attractions/activities for kids. Also, better education as I have a special needs child. I am thinking Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, or Iowa City. I have only ever been to these places as a teen out partying so I looking for insight. I am in nursing as well so as far as my career outlook, near a hospital.

Des Moines definitely fits your criteria. Specifically, the suburbs of Des Moines(Ankeny, Altoona, Pleasant Hill, Saylorville). Cedar Rapids is nearly identical to Waterloo, just bigger. Iowa City is geared more toward the college crowd, of course. An honorable mention would be Dubuque. Not as much activities/nightlife as Des Moines, however a bit more laid back.

Anywhere around Des Moines is the most economically dynamic area of the state.

I have spent some time in Cedar Rapids and felt it was pretty well-rounded small city

Omaha is wonderful. Great downtown, beautiful historic neighborhoods, nice suburbs, and growing briskly. That would be my first choice, including if I needed to live across the river in Council Bluffs. I also think Iowa City is absolutely beautiful. Des Moines is nice but for some reason didn't grab me as much. I've heard very good things about Bettendorf.

Bettendorf is probably better than Davenport but I feel anywhere in the Quad Cities is nice
