Thinking about relocating to Ames. Does anyone know of major companies that offer good benefits? Also, how is Ames with regard to entertainment, arts, culture, etc.?

I'd head to Ankeny or Urbandale for better luck with jobs, things seem to be really growing there. There are some great rental deals here and it's a really nice place, especially if you're college age. But good jobs? They're few and far between in Ames, salaries are low in general and you can't find a part time job to make up for it.

Ames is my home town. Jobs there tend to be difficult to find - well, good paying ones, anyway. The economy is bound & tied with the University. It's a great place though. Many people commute to the Des Moines area, although that's pretty far. The smaller towns in the area are great, also. I can't think of one I wouldn't move to. Ames right now is over supplied with apartments. You can get really good deals on rentals.
