Burlington police says two shootings are tied to Chicago

Some people might consider that scary even if the shootings aren't directly related to Burlington's downtown itself. The recent violence still conveys a level of fear that is linked to the city's continued deterioration. The present condition of downtown Burlington reflects some of that negative vibe.

This isn't new. Chicago gang members have been in the Burlington area for decades, (I remember news stories about this in the early 90s) and downtown isn't where they congregate. There are other areas of town that I would consider to be slightly scary, but downtown? No.
