We are moving to Dubuque this summer for my husband's new job. Yeah!!! Although I've never actually been there, I am looking forward to getting back to the beauty of the bluffs. Having grown up in the bluffs of Western WI, I know what I'm getting into. My question for now is cell service. What companies provide good cell service in the area? We want to get new cell phones right away and drop our current expensive landline.

US Cellular and Verizon are good choices.

I second jasperhobbs, but I'll add:
US Cellular has really great service in the Midwest, I am rarely roaming even in the most remote rural areas of Iowa. The plans are a bit cheaper than other carriers, and I think the phone selection is very good.

Verizon is better if you want national coverage. If you are planning to leave the Midwest often, this would be your best bet. You can get a national plan with US Cellular, but Verizon has locations nationwide and works better for the frequent traveler in case your phone breaks on a trip or something like that.

Thanks again to both of you. My biggest concern was service in the bluff areas. I am familiar with how much trouble it is to get service in the bluff areas of Wisconsin.

I live in Dubuque, am a US Cellular customer, and have never had trouble getting service anywhere in the area

I have trouble getting service in Marion at my house. I'm switching from USC to Verizon right now.
